We turned up at Pembrey with an un-tested bike, for various reasons. I was less than happy going out in the first race as it had run badly in practice, not giving me the power on the straights and stalling into the first corner hairpin... This proved to be a carburation problem.
SATURDAY: During race one I experienced some unnerving twitching from the back end, this turned out to be gear oil coating the right side of the tyre. The engine was making some odd noises too.. On about lap three after going wide around Dibeni and getting a twitch from the rear I was forced to pick it up and take to the grass approaching the esses. I lost several places but still finished third in class..
"What the hell is that noise" ??
Race two saw me having a much better time and, despite feeling unhappy with the bikes performance, I had a great time holding off Paul Woods lc350 and finished second in class. Or I would have if I hadn`t been lapped just as I`d crossed the line. The winning rider passed me just after the line, the red flags came out and I was unable to finish my lap! I am currently disputing the DNF...... I have now been awarded my 3rd place trophy for saturday and am waiting to see if I am to be awarded the points etc for 2nd place.........
Taking a wide line into Dibeni Bend with Paul Woods trying to get under me.... again.
SUNDAY: In the first race I got a good start from a poor grid position and had a race long tussle with George Downhams 1170 P&M Kawazaki. Downham had the grunt on the fast parts but I was able to keep up and on the last lap managed to hold him off to cross the line 0.35 secs ahead...second in class. I also got my best lap of the weekend, a 1:12.9 on that last lap.
Screaming into the incredibly fast Woodlands...
In the second race I got a great start from twelth and was well up with the leaders when I became aware of the gear oil problem returning.... I let the leaders go and settled into a comfortable pace, holding off chasers to cross the line second in class. I may have to build a trophy cabinet now..............
Looking forward to Lydden.
