Spike finally getting to play with his toy..
Race 1; Starting from the second to last row I made a fair start. After a glance over the wrong shoulder I thought I was pretty much on my own, little did I know that Danny Pullen, also on a TR500, was right behind me and trying to find a way past. After going wide into Druids Danny eventually got past. Of course another TR500 in front was like the proverbial red rag and I got straight back under him at Graham Hill bend. I kept him at bay to come across the line sixth in class, half a second ahead of an experienced rider on what he reckons is the better bike! Not a bad start to my racing career..
Battling with an 1105cc Kawazaki and Danny Pullens tr500 going into Druids(slightly sideways).. Both finished behind me.
Race 2; A couple of rows further up the grid, I got a clean start and again settled into a comfortable pace. Having eased off due to an odd engine noise, Danny Pullen caught me again and cut across my nose causing me to pick the bike up and hit the painted curb in a very dangerous move.
Leading Pullen round Mclarens
I was un-nerved by this and also fully aware of the worrying engine noise so I throttled off and followed George Downhams big Kawazaki with one eye on the rev counter letting Pullen get away from me. Despite easing off, the left piston `holed` and I passed the chequered flag with a dead engine, eleventh in class. I was still very happy with the result as I had been taking it fairly easy on the engine revs for most of the race.
Pullen later said he`d cut me up to "teach me a lesson" after getting in his way!? ... As much as I`d like to get involved in a rivalry, I dont think I`ll be seeing much of Mr Pullen in future......
Next race; Pembrey 7/8 April `07 ..................
