It's fair to say that I was somewhat nervous of Cadwell, it has a certain reputation.. It really is a track of two halves, only one of which appeals to me as I like fast and flowing rather than tight scratching.
Well, I went out to practice and found that I really liked the first half of the circuit, although it is really narrow in places. From the chicane onwards though I was not so keen. 'The Mountain' was not as scary as I'd thought but I really disliked the hairpin, especially as it was damp and slippery under the trees. It just seemed rediculously slow. On the third lap I tried it a little quicker and lost the front end sending me sliding into the tyre wall. Not particularly helpful as I was feeling less than comfortable anyway.
After a frantic rush to get the bike fixed up and myself checked over we were ready for the race, one of only two this weekend. I had decided beforehand to simply circulate and score enough points for the championship, and this is exactly what I did in both races. It seemed a bit of an anticlimax after some of the close racing I'd enjoyed this season, but I was not going to throw away a season.
So, championship duly won by a single point in particularly unspectacular style.......
